4 years to create a spectacular boat
The AC75 combines the high-performance sailing and match racing, with the safety of a boat that can correct itself in the event of a capsize. The ground-breaking concept is achieved by using twin canting T-foils, ballasted to provide righting-moment when sailing and roll-stability, whilst at low speed.
In standard sailing boats, the leeward foil is lowered to provide lift and enable foiling; whilst the windward foil is raised out of the water to maximise the lever-arm of the ballast and reduce drag. During pre-starts and through manoeuvring, both foils can be lowered to provide extra lift and control rolling, which can be useful in rougher sea conditions and provide a wider window whilst racing.
